Bolton is a large town that has grown to have a population of around 261,000 people and is situated within the Greater Manchester area. The name Bolton comes from Bolt and Tun. le-Moors is merely a description of the land which surrounds Bolton (moorland). In its heyday as an industrial town its skyline was a forest of chimneys most of which served the textile industry and for which Bolton was a world-renowned centre.
Bolton is easily accessed from along the A666 which to the South connects with the M61 leading on the main North West motorway network. Access to the regional and national road and rail system can be gained easily with Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds all lying within commuting distance.
For entertainment Bolton offers a diverse nightlife. A range of pubs and clubs are all easily accessible once in the town centre as are restaurants and Bolton’s three theatres, The Albert Halls, The Octagon and The Bolton Little Theatre each with its own particular speciality of show. For those who prefer their theatre to be pure Hollywood then Bolton has two multi-screen cinemas –a UGC Cinema at The Valley on Eagley Brook Way or a Vue Cinema Middlebrook Leisure Park in Horwich which is around a mile away. Bolton currently boasts The Valley, a relatively new leisure park and as well as the cinema also offers an Esporta Leisure club providing the latest in high tech fitness regimes as well as the Atlantis nightclub whilst in Bolton itself there are at least half a dozen other nightclubs.
